So as the impending trip to DC comes ever closer, I still haven't made any plans for during the day on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday while John is at his conference. Are there any good shopping places that I can drive to? What about museums? (I know I would take the Metro in town) I haven't been to DC in over ten years. Please recommend things to do, especially shopping. But cultural stuff, too. :-P

If you want enough shopping to entertain you for Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, then you should head on over to Potomac Mills It's absolutely ginormous.

Unfortunately I'm going to be out of town over the weekend, so I won't be able to hang around with you guys with the rest of the DC crowd then. Would you guys be free on any of the evenings for dinner or something, by any chance?

Yes, we are free for dinner on some day. I don't know about those plans, yet. John is in charge of our evening plans.

I think only one day of shopping... Although that place sounds huge. hmm...

Woohoo! At least one day I'd Metro down to the Smithsonian and just walk through museums.... Free museums which are largely empty on weekdays. You can see anything you want. Beat that :)

M Street in Georgetown is always good. There are also nifty eats there.

Since you mentioned that your hotel is near the convention center, you should know that you're within walking distance of a lot of cool things. In addition to a lot of neat museums, you're real close to Chinatown, which has a lot of neat little shops to go in to and wander.

Print out a map to bring with you before you go. This one is okay.

There are tons and tons of monuments to go see. Most of them are probably old hat to you, but the FDR monument is new within the last 10 years, and it is really cool. It's worth checking out. There are, of course, numerous Smithsonians to go see. I prefer the African Art museums and other art museums to the planes, trains, automobiles and dinosaurs.

It's a great city, with lots of cool places to eat and shop. Have fun.

Maybe we should go to the Library of Congress. Now that we are Librarians and all that. Shrug. I could take all those excess comic books they don't want.

Or they could take all of your excess comic books. ;)
